I recently had the honor of composing music for a play called Madonna of the Cat, written by playwright Sue Mach and directed by Gemma Whalen. It made its world premiere at 21Ten Theater in Portland, Oregon on November 1st. These songs represent the inner life of the main characters: Queen Hermione, her lady’s maid Paulina, the shepherdess Donna, the infant princess Perdita and the Bear. I did my best to capture the beauty and strangeness of their world and the visceral layers of tension and resolve present throughout the story.
