Stephanie Schneiderman’s new release, Gaslight, seamlessly combines her past sonic explorations – folk, Americana, chamber pop, and soul – into a beautifully dark and deeply introspective sound that is as lush as it is intimate. Recorded and co-produced with John Askew, the song speaks to her personal experience of navigating a male dominated industry, as well as the unnerving political backdrop of our times. Written on piano, the track centers around Stephanie’s voice – bright, fluid, emotional and raw with soulful backing vocals from Tarshene Watkins and Jeannie Wiggins, her bandmates from Motown funk supergroup Body and Soul. Adding melodic indie-rock prowess is her acoustic quartet featuring Jenny Conlee (Decemberists) on accordion, Keith Brush on upright bass and Ji Tanzer (Blue Cranes) on drums and percussion plus a stunning woodwind and horn arrangement by world renowned composer Kelly Pratt (Arcade Fire, Coldplay). 

Stephanie will release the single on Friday, February 6th with a release show at Polaris Hall featuring her acoustic quartet (with Jenny Conlee, Keith Brush and Ji Tanzer) plus special guest Tony Furtado with dreamy, electronic pop band Echo Echo Echo opening the night (feat. Kyleen King, Rebecca Sanborn and Jenny Conlee). 8pm show, Tickets are $25 adv.

Stephanie Schneiderman is an award-winning songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, producer, activist and a 4th-generation Oregonian. Whether pursuing her prolific work as a solo artist (9 albums), playing drums for all-star roots act Swan Sovereign (Dirty Martini), stepping on the stage in the musical The Full Monty, organizing a wildly successful humanitarian concert series for refugees in Uganda (raising over $70k) or producing the soundtrack for 3 popular children’s DVD’s (selling 50,000 combined units), Schneiderman is hands down one of the most diversely talented artists the Northwest has to offer. 

Starting her solo career with a coveted spot in the Lilith Fair, she received extensive NW radio play and earned placements in numerous films / primetime TV shows. She went on to tour internationally and share the stage with some of the nation’s top touring acts – from Aimee Mann to Hall & Oates, Marc Cohen, Sarah McLachlan, Heart and Train. 

Above all her accolades as an artist, Schneiderman has a keen passion for activism. Taking part in Oregon Symphony’s Lullaby Project since its inception in 2017, she has teamed up with women experiencing homelessness to help them write a lullaby for their kids. Stephanie recently created and founded an 8-week “songwriting experience” called YOU ARE THE SONG and is bringing the program to marginalized communities throughout Oregon including Coffee Creek Correctional Facility, Harmony Academy (a high school for kids in recovery), hospitals and more.
